Tarakewhwor is connected with Tokha municipality in the east, Nargajun municipality in the west, Nuwakot district in the north and Kathmandu metropolitan city in the south. According to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal dated 16 November 2071, Sangla, Kavresthali, Jitpurphedi, Goldhunga, Dharmasthali, Futung and Manmaiju villages of this region. Tarakeshwar Municipality has been announced after inclusion. Currently, this municipality is divided into 21 wards and now it is included in 11 wards.

As mentioned in Swasthani Varta Katha, it is said that in the mythological period, Sati Devi's limbs fell and Tarakeshwar Mahadev was born and was in the form of Shaktipeeth. From the same name, the name of this municipality was Tarakeshwar Municipality. This municipality is full of natural, religious, cultural and linguistic diversity. As cultural Shaktipeeth, Sri Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple, Old Guhyeshwari Temple, Manmaiju Indrayani Temple, Bhubaneswari Temple, Shantidham, Simleshwar Mahadev Temple, Mahankal Temple, Narayan Devi, Kalpeshwar Mahadev, Nakhaldol, Baikhu, Lolang, Panchmane, Phedi Bazar, Futung Bazar, Kunchipavakal etc. The areas of this municipality are religious and tourist areas.
